The strings are long and the lights are a brilliant white. I was pleasantly surprised to find various lighting options included with the string. Once plugged in you can press a button which switches the lights between a gentle sparkle, fading on and off, a strobe-light effect, and the default all on. I think the strobe-light effect will be a lot of fun when the dancing gets started! <br /> <br />As the other reviewers noted, they can't be chained so not recommended for Christmas tree decorating, but for a backyard or wedding these are perfect. Never felt need to turn them off or have a fire. Each string needs to go to the wall though, requiring 9 power inputs be present for my 10 foot tree. 8 light strings and 1 topper. You'll need a new topper if yours is old, amber light style. White light (bordering on blue) plus yellow doesnt look too good.
